Online is a great option.
There are many advantages to doing online therapy.
First, we can talk from the comfort of your home or in the privacy of your car (as long as it’s safely parked!).
Second, you won’t have to schedule extra travel time to get to and from your appointment.
Third, you don’t have to dress up. PJs are okay if they are PG-rated. Last and maybe best, pets can join in for additional support.
How do we begin?
During the first session, we will get to know each other and start building trust. Many clients have told me, “I can’t believe I’m telling you this – I’ve never shared this with ANYONE.”
I take that as a compliment because it means I’m doing a great job making you feel safe, seen, heard, and understood. You’ll likely feel lighter and more hopeful at the end of the first meeting.
It’s a relief to unburden yourself to someone who gets you and wants to help.
You don’t just talk about your problems.
The remaining sessions focus on the goals you are working toward so that you feel you are moving in a good direction. No wandering or wallowing for us! We want to get you to that place of healing, to that new level of self-confidence, to that increased ability to communicate effectively as soon as possible.
Sometimes, you’ll come to a session eager to talk about what happened that week, and that’s where we’ll focus. Sometimes, you’ll wonder if it’s worth meeting with me because you have no clue what we’ll talk about.
Rest assured, I am thinking about our sessions, too, and will be ready to share things I know you’ll find helpful.
It’s not always easy.
Navigating change can take you to uncomfortable places, and I’ll be right with you. The art of changing involves learning to become comfortable with your new normal, whether you’re crafting it or the universe created it for you.
The path is easier when you walk it with an experienced guide who knows the way. I will support you when things are difficult. I’ll help you find understanding when things are confusing. I’ll mourn with you and celebrate with you.
And I don’t just hand you answers.
I often invite you to try new things, experiment with new responses, or write things down. Yeah, it sounds like homework, and in some ways it is. But real-life solutions must work in real-life situations.
And don’t worry. I always check in to ensure you feel okay about at least trying. And if you’re not, or if it turns out that you were braver in session than you were in the situation, THAT’S OKAY. No judgment, no ‘failing’. Just more information for us to use as we create something that works for you.
But it’s worth it – definitely!
Throughout our work, we will focus on what keeps you from living life however you want. Along the way, you will notice improvements in some areas, and there will be areas that you want to work on more.
At some point, the focus will shift away from problem-solving because you will come to our sessions excited to tell me how well you’ve been doing. You’ll compare how things are going for you now to how they used to be when we first met.
Then, we will review your progress, celebrate your success, and agree you’re ready to ‘graduate’!
About Me
My path to becoming a therapist started with loss.
When I tragically lost a family member, grief consumed me.
I will be forever grateful to the counselor who was a lifeline in my darkness. She opened my path to healing and assured me I could walk it.
That was just one of many experiences that made me passionate about paying it forward.
I consider working with you a privilege.
It is a true privilege to be invited to walk the path with someone who is hurting. I am passionate about providing care and helping heal the hurts, which is why I continually pursue education in modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and other evidence-based therapy models.
My expertise as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker allows me to craft an approach tailored to your needs. You will not find a one-size-fits-all attitude with me!
All work and no play would be a hard way to live.
My favorite activities are curling up with a good book, experimenting with new recipes, playing with the grandkids, road-tripping with my husband, and spending time in nature.
